Although associated with Impressionism, Joaquín Sorolla developed a distinct style of painting that combined strong realism with loose brushwork, and colorful, sunlit scenes . Capturing the culture and people of his native Valencia, Sorolla is most famous for his vivid depictions of life on the Mediterranean coast. Bathing in sunlight, his works focused on fishermen hauling in nets, women drying off clothes, and children playing and cooling off in the ocean. The everyday lives of the working class people in his community.
