Mary Cassatt
1893-1894
Oil on canvas
Impressionism/Post-Impressionism
National Gallery of Art
One of the most famous Impressionist painters, Mary Cassatt, painted "The Boating Party" while in Antibes during the winter of 1893-1894. With its bold colors and flat perspective, it gives us some hints to the influence Japanese art had on the Impressionists, and how Impressionism evolved into the Post-Impressionist style we know from painters such as Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin.
