Brutal, yet beautiful! Chaïm Soutine is perhaps most known for his still lifes of animal carcasses. Inspired by Rembrandt's 'Slaughtered Ox', Soutine painted 10 pieces in his series of animal carcasses. Although we are lucky to be able to admire these works today, Soutine's neighbors at the time were not as happy, and ended up calling the police because of the horrid stench coming from the rotting animals kept in Soutine's studio.
