Eva Gonzalès was one of the notable women associated with the Impressionist movement, alongside artists like Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot, and Marie Bracquemond. While her inclusion among the key female Impressionists is sometimes debated, Gonzalès was undoubtedly an important figure in the artistic circles of her time. Her father, a well-known writer, provided her access to Paris’s intellectual and cultural elite, a connection that led to her introduction to Édouard Manet. Eva became a student of Manet, actually his only formal one, and she modeled for several of his works while developing her own distinct artistic voice.
