Expressionism; Abstract Art
Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Wassily Kandinsky is often cited as being the father of abstract art. Through his artistic career, his style evolved from expressionistic towards pure abstraction. The reason for this transition was Kandinsky's belief that art and spirituality were deeply connected, and that color and form had the ability to convey deeper truths. This expressionist landscape from his earlier works gives us a hint of what was to come in his later, more abstract paintings.
