Oil on canvas
Post-Impressionism
Philadelphia Museum of Art
Although the unhealthy lifestyle of the Parisian boheme cut Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's life short, he left behind a remarkable volume of production. At an age of 36 Lautrec died from complications due to alcoholism and syphilis, and left more than one thousand paintings, and as much between five and six thousand prints, posters and drawings. His art centered on the Parisian nightlife, and more often than not the working women of the Moulin Rouge in particular.
