Albert Joseph Moore was an English painter known for his depictions of serene, idealized female figures, set in different classical scenes showing luxury and opulence. Born in York as the fourteenth child to portrait painter William Moore, he grew up in an artistic home, with many of his brothers becoming renowned painters as well. After his fathers death, when Albert was only 11 years old, he was guided by his brother John Collingham Moore, before moving to London and attending the Royal Academy in 1858. From the mid-1860s onward, his work evolved toward a neo-classical style, often depicting women in states of sleep or repose, painted with meticulous detail.
