Young Hare by Albrecht Dürer

Young Hare
Albrecht Dürer
1502
Watercolor
Northern Renaissance
Albertina, Vienna

A contemporary of Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer is considered one of the most important artists of the Northern Renaissance. While the Italian Renaissance artists were trying to represent ideals of beauty and classical proportions, artists north of the alps were chasing ways to present realistic, highly detailed images, using vivid colors to bring their subjects to life. Just as Dürer does masterly with this watercolor of a hare.
