Transfiguration by Raphael

Transfiguration
Raphael
1516-1520
Oil tempera on wood
High Renaissance
Pinacoteca Vaticana

The transfiguration was the last painting Raphael worked on before his death in 1520. The painting is unorthodox in merging two distinct biblical scenes, the transfiguration of Christ in the upper half of the painting, and the healing of a possessed boy in the lower half. It is considered to be one of Raphael's most famous works, with a masterfully display of the use of shadow and light.
