Cuno Amiet was one of the pioneers of Modern Art in Switzerland, and a friend of Giovanni Giacometti, the father of the famous sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti. As many of his contemporaries throughout Europe, Amiet was dissatisfied with the art of the academies, and joined the Pont-Avon School in 1892. The most famous painter to be associated with the Pont-Avon School was Paul Gauguin, and as we also recognize from Gauguin's style of painting, Amiet would use pure colors instead of tonal ones, and use an expressive palette with popping colors. Through a career of more than 70 years, Amiet painted over 4,000 paintings.
