When talking about the style of Mannerism, El Greco is among the first that come to mind. Mannerism is recognized by its exaggeration and elegance, with elongated figures, stylized images and complex compositions. El Greco got his artistic training as an icon painter in Byzantine traditions, which can help explain his departure from Renaissance painting towards what we today call Mannerism.
