The Holy Trinity by Masaccio

The Holy Trinity
Masaccio
c. 1427
Fresco
Early Renaissance
Santa Maria Novella, Florence, Italy

One of the earliest examples of the use of linear perspective. Masaccio, influenced by Giotto and the architect Brunelleschi, was an early master of this painting technique. Imagine the astonishment the first people to see this fresco must have felt. Painted arts before Masaccio had always been flat, and now it seemed you could almost walk into the painting itself.
