Another prominent Baroque painter, contemporary to Guido Reni from my last post, Nicolas Poussin was a leading figure of the French Baroque movement. His art shows his great admiration for classical antiquity, with the dramatic storytelling we recognize from the Baroque style of painting. 'The Death of Germanicus' is a great example of his dedication to classical themes, with the subject being the dying Roman general Germanicus, surrounded by his grieving family and soldiers paying their respects.
