The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo

The Creation of Adam
Michelangelo
1508-1512
Fresco
High Renassiance
The Sistine Chapel

It is amusing to think that even one of the most powerful men in the world at the time, Pope Julius II, had to persuade Michelangelo to paint the monumental ceiling fresco in the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo considered himself primarily a sculptor and was initially reluctant to undertake the project. However, luckily for us, he ultimately accepted the commission, and we are now left with one of the greatest masterpieces in the history of art.
