Johannes Vermeer
c. 1664
Oil on canvas
Baroque, Dutch Golden Age
Missing since 1990
The Concert', one of only 34 known paintings attributed to Johannes Vermeer, is the most valuable painting, if not the most valuable object, ever to be stolen. It was stolen from the 'Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum' in 1990, and has still not resurfaced. With its 2015 valuation of $250 million, it is the most valuable painting ever stolen, as well as the most valuable painting still unrecovered.
