A great contrast to the Romantic style of Caspar David Friedrich from my last post, Francisco de Goya is primarily known for his dark and ominous art works. Painted at a time where Spain was in war with Napoleon’s France, ’The Colossus’ is often interpreted as a symbol of war, with the massive Colossus looming over a powerless and frightened people.
