Although a highly talented Impressionist painter, Alfred Sisley would not gain the same fame as some of his contemporaries, such as Monet or Pissarro. Without the commercial success during his lifetime, Sisley struggled financially. It would only be after his death that his works got their well-deserved recognition, with the current record price for one of his paintings being more than 9 million dollars.
