Surrealism
Leonora Carrington was a British-born Surrealist painter and writer who spent most of her life in Mexico. Her work is characterized by dreamlike compositions, hybrid figures, and symbolic references to mythology, alchemy, and the occult. Drawing from Celtic heritage, esoteric traditions, and personal experiences, she developed a visual language distinct from all of her contemporaries. While often associated with the Surrealist movement, Carrington maintained an independent approach, and her contributions were largely overlooked during her lifetime. Today, she is recognized as a central figure in 20th-century Surrealism with a distinctly feminist perspective.
