Large Blue Horses by Franz Marc

Franz Marc was one of the most prominent German Expressionists. His works are easily recognized through his fascination for animals, and his use of bright and bold colors, often with the primary colors red, blue and yellow well-represented. In the Expressionists works of the time, we can feel the anxiety and despair of the looming WWI, and tragically Franz Marc died in action at the Battle of Verdun, in 1916, at the age of 36.
