In 1908, Munch's anxiety and mental health had deteriorated so much that he was hospitalized at the clinic of Dr. Daniel Jacobson. Munch would later describe his condition at the time to be "verging on madness", and he underwent eight months of diet and "electrification", a treatment used for nervous conditions, where the patient would be subjected to mild electrical currents to stimulate the nervous system and provide psychological treatment.
