This is the first painting ever to be acquired by MoMA, donated by an anonymous donor in 1930. The house that inspired the painting is a Second Empire style Victorian mansion located in Haverstraw, New York, and is said to have inspired the house from Hitchcock's classic film 'Psycho', and the house of 'The Addams Family'.
