Titian
c. 1522-1523
Oil on canvas
Renaissance, Venetian School
National Gallery, London
Titian, another major artist from the Venetian School, was renowned in his own time for his masterful use of color. He provides us with movement and drama in this scene of Bacchus and Ariadne, bringing the scene to life, and it is interesting to compare this movement and drama to the Rubens I posted earlier this week, painted more than a hundred years later.
